Apprentice Steel Fabricator - Level 3 - Hereford

Qualifications needed: 4 GCSES Grade 4 or above (or equivalent)

 About the role: 

We designed our Apprenticeship Scheme to start your journey towards becoming an industry expert. So, expect well-structured training, incredible projects, talented colleagues and loads of hands-on experience. As part of the scheme you will follow a training programme as part of our Industry recognised Apprenticeship programme, geared towards you achieving a Level 3 Metal Fabricator Apprenticeship. Typical duration of the apprenticeship is 42 months.

Your time on the programme will see you gaining all kinds of specialist skills and eye-catching achievements. You will be joining a leading international infrastructure group shaping innovative and efficient infrastructure that underpins our daily lives, supports communities and enables growth.

In addition to supporting you through your formal apprentice qualification, you will follow the Balfour Beatty Enhanced Apprentice programme. This is a mix of development events and activities, plus in year 2 you will compete in the Balfour Beatty Brathay Apprentice Challenge, to help us find the Balfour Beatty Apprentice Team of the Year! The challenge is a mix of community engagement activities and a team building event in the Lake District. Following successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will be able to develop your career further within Balfour Beatty, including the option to move onto the next level of your apprenticeship.

Your responsibilities as an Apprentice Steel Fabricator will include:

  • Fabricate and weld aluminium and steel products in accordance with company drawings.
  • Carry out duties in accordance with standard company Quality Assurance procedures and Work Instructions
  • Carry out daily duties complying with correct PPE and safety procedures in the area
  • To carry out daily duties as required by the Production Chargehand Supervisor
  • Assist with the daily inspection and sign off of plant and equipment
  • Produce a finished product that complies with the drawings supplied
  • Ensure the product complies with the tolerances and conditions specified on the drawings
  • Complete production within the timescales specified
  • Ensure re-work is kept to a minimum and any quality issues are recorded

Who we’re looking for: 

  • 4 GCSES Grade 4 or above or Level 2 qualification or equivalent
  • You will be able to set the pace as well as the standards for the team
  • You will also have the ability to describe what interests and motivates you to the construction industry
  • You will have a strong work ethic and willingness to take responsibility for your academic and vocational development
